About surf camps in Costa Rica

Arrival and Departure Day

There will be a private shuttle scheduled from Juan Santamaria Airport in Alajuela San Jose (SJO) Friday (17 January and 14 February) 6:00 PM on the arrival day. Due to the traffic if you arrive a day before please book a night in one of the nearest hotels to be present for the pick up at the airport in the next day. The return shuttle will be scheduled on the last day of your stay Thursday (30 January and 27 February) 11:00 AM after breakfast from our surf hostel and will drive you back to the airport. Please schedule your flight back home for Thursday after 6:00 PM. Remember because of the time change you will be back to your country with a delay of +1 day.

Car service included

Our surf hostel is located just next to the beach but in Costa Rica you need a car to be able to explore more. Waterfalls, National Parks, Tandem Parachuting, ATV, Zip lines, Self-Defense/Ju-Jitsu with the @junglemat team in Uvita, Whale Watching or Snorkelling in Cano Island and many different activities along the coast and up in the hills. This is why we have decided to add two private vans on place to enclose this transport service into the package. Two 8 pax 4x4 vans will allow you join all extra activities you dream about visiting Costa Rica.

Beginners / Intermediates Groups

We will divide you in two separated groups, Beginners and Intermediates depending on your surfing skills. Both groups will be surfing different spots depending on the everyday surf condition. Waves for Beginners we find in more covered spots, they are smaller, clean, easy going rides to practise your first steps and keep you in a comfort zone. Waves for Intermediates clean and long but faster, steeper and more challenging. We want you to truly progress. Get ready for an intense course of surfing with a lot of commitment and training. You can also surf after lessons as we provide you 24h rental of boards.

Video Analysis

Girl on the Wave surfing program is based on video analysis. We believe recording surf performance gives the unique opportunity to see and understand what are your main goals to work for. Proper stand, motion skills, good technique. Once a mistake is seen can not be unseen and this observation makes the brain process faster and speak to our body straight. People say watching themselves surfing and seeing their mistakes caught red-handed is crutial and game-changing for their proper transformation and progress. Girl on the Wave video analysis boost the whole learning process and build up surfing confidence in the water.

Yoga

Special yoga practise with a dedicated yoga master makes the surfing experience even more complex. Yoga helps to build up strength and flexibility of your body but also coordinates balance and relaxes muscles to get ready for the next surfing session. We nourish Girl on the Wave surf camps in Costa Rica with an excellent yoga teacher who is into everyday deep practise as into stretching and relaxation techniques with elements of meditation and sound therapy healing with bowls and gongs.

Accommodation and packages

Our surf hostel offesr an accommodation with a double-checked good standard, nice and helpful staff, clean organised inner space and friendly vibe. You can book a surf package from 2099 EUR for a single bed in triple/quadruple room (private bathroom) anti-mosquito nets and FANs or upgrade with 2199 EUR to the same standard room but with AC.

For couples and single travelers who wish to book a private room we can also offer a double room with FAN for 2399 EUR per person (or 2599 EUR for a single use) as well as a double room with AC for 2499 EUR per person (2699 EUR for a single use)

Dominical Surfing Paradise

Dominical is a small surfing village on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica in the south direction from San Jose. Dominical has an amazing beach break about 4 km long (mostly lefts). It’s not crowded, not expensive and very local with a cool surf base and an amazing surfing vibe. Another great thing is that Costa Rica has tropical water but is not sharky at all. Early morning or sunset surf is safe and absolutely blessing.

Into the wild

Wild animals and parrots or toucans chirping around. Surf hostel is placed in the middle of the jungle crossed only by one main Pacific Road. Get ready for a lot of wild animal views and sounds. Surfing with pelicans, dolphins, turtles, sword fishes, manta rays happens quite often and you will find famous sloths on the top of the tree and iguanas under your door. There are also some crocodiles in the river but they do not enter the Ocean, at least not in the dry season (December-May). Good News? You will not find in Costa Rica a single shark. Sometimes jellyfish. Spiders and snakes are far away from our surf hostel. Mosquitos yes, do not forget about a strong repellent. Nights on the beach with a bonfire will be worth it.

Sustainable infrastructure

Surf Hostel

Only 50m from the beach. Big spacious Central American open yard style gathers surfers from all over the world. Balconies over which we can dry our shorts, bikinis and towels have corridors leading to diverse rooms located on two different floors. All Girl on the Wave rooms have AC. In case if you prefer a bed in the room with FAN it is possible to change with advance. A big kitchen open 24h for the common use. A spacious open air living room with a good standard Wi-Fi. A stand for surf boards and outdoor shower just next to the little swimming pool. An amazing and very helpful crew at the reception anytime. Restaurant where we will have all breakfasts and dinners is located just next to the surf hostel.

Waves

Playa Dominical is definitely one of the best surf spots in the world It boasts consistent waves 95% of the year, with waves no smaller than waist high. Beautiful sandbars shape the waves like if it was a point break. Playa Dominical is known worldwide for its powerful waves. For goofy footers: there is plenty of lefts ! And in the bigger days if the size is out of your range there is also a little sister of Dominical (Domi) which is Playa Dominicalito (Lito) much more covered from the swell. Is it a natural wave pool? Yes it is. Are you a point break lover? You will also find some within a few kilometers/miles around.

Water is tropical warm, over 20 C. And there is almost no wind in the dry season (between December and May). January and February is the absolute top of the high season. But do not worry about crowds. The bay is large, 4km long and full of breaks with stunning jungle views. Get concerned about needing a hat on your head and some lycra to protect your body from the sun in the middle of the day. If you want to find more relief mornings and sunsets in the water are just unforgettable ! 5:30 AM first light. 7:30 PM last light. Different breaks for different skills. A natural gym to truly practise surfing all day long and everyday.
